Gerald is the former CEO: Client Solutions for Santam where he was responsible for managing Santam’s direct-to-client value proposition that provides end-to-end digital, telephony and face-to-face distribution and servicing capabilities. He was also responsible for the overall Marketing function for the group. He previously served as Executive Head: Strategic Business Development where he was responsible for the identification and driving of targeted growth opportunities across the Santam Group of Companies including collaboration with Sanlam. These business opportunities span across ground up initiatives, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships. His other past experience includes the role of Executive Head: Distribution Services at Discovery Insure where he was also one of the founding executives of Discovery Business Insurance. He has over 18 years of extensive experience in the financial services industry. He is a past president, and former executive council member, of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) and a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa. And he served as non-executive director on the boards of two Santam Group subsidiary companies [Indwe Broker Holdings (Chairman) & Snyman van der Vyver] and served as non-executive director of Ayo Holdings Limited (an MTN Group subsidiary company in alliance with Sanlam)

Mr. Moloele, a qualified Chartered Accountant (South Africa), is an experienced finance professional and a seasoned corporate financier. He has held several senior positions during his career at Sanlam Limited, the Momentum Group and Deloitte. Whilst his early career was in auditing, he transitioned to focus on mergers and acquisitions, shaping and executing on strategic corporate initiatives. Mr. Moloele brings deep expertise in corporate governance matters and a proven track record in managing complex local and cross-border commercial transactions.

Mr. Moloele joins from Sanlam Limited, where he served as a Senior Consultant in Corporate Finance. He holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science (Wits University), a Higher Diploma in Accounting Science (Wits University) and an MBA from the University of Manchester.

Andrew Schwulst is a seasoned executive with a remarkable career in the healthcare industry. With a tenure of over 12 years as the CEO of Liberty Health, he brings a wealth of knowledge, invaluable insight and a profound understanding of the healthcare sector.

Throughout his distinguished career, Andrew has held various senior leadership positions, including directorships within the Liberty Health group of companies. His extensive leadership experience, encompassing two years in Australia and a decade with the Netcare group in South Africa, has shaped his deep expertise in the healthcare domain.

As the CEO of Medscheme Holdings since September 2023, Andrew is driving the organisation forward with his strategic vision and executive acumen. His skills in executive management, leadership, and business strategy are pivotal in shaping the company’s trajectory. With a robust background in the private hospital sector, coupled with a focus on healthcare strategy, Andrew is poised to make a significant impact on the delivery of Medscheme’s health strategy.

Andrew’s track record of leadership excellence, coupled with his comprehensive skill set in areas such as healthcare industry dynamics, executive management, and strategic planning, underscores his commitment to advancing healthcare initiatives. His tenure at Liberty Health, marked by achievements in strategy development, financial modeling, and financial analysis, sets the stage for continued success in his current role as the CEO of Medscheme Holdings.

Mujeeb Bray is an executive with 25 years of healthcare operations experience. Previously serving as the GM Executive – Head of Service at Discovery Health from April 2011. Holding a Bachelor of Commerce in Strategic Management from the University of Western Cape, Mujeeb has continually enhanced his leadership skills through programs like the Leadership Advance Programme at the University of Cape Town and the CEO Programme at the Said Business School – University of Oxford.

Throughout his tenure at Discovery Health, Mujeeb effectively managed an annual budget of R1,2BN, leading 3200 team members across the South African geography. His passion for customer experience was evident in his achievement of outstanding 90% customer satisfaction ratings across member, broker, and health professional channels since 2015. Notably, he received the CCMG Award for Best Contact Centre in the world in 2021.

Mujeeb is adept at financial management, strategic planning, and change management. He has successfully implemented process improvement initiatives, achieving an average of 10% Opex reduction year on year since 2017.

Prior to his current position, Mujeeb served as a Service Executive at Prudential Health, where he facilitated the seamless transition of the SA business to London within nine months and developed retention and engagement plans for SA-based staff. His career journey includes various leadership roles, showcasing his ability to align teams with strategic objectives and deliver exceptional results in the healthcare industry.

Aklaaq Mahmood has more than 18 years’ experience in the healthcare industry. Formerly, he was the Deputy CEO of LA Health Medical Scheme and Principal Officer of ProSano Medical Scheme. An MBA graduate from the University of Stellenbosch where he received a highest achievement Merit Award for Strategy. Aklaaq began his career in healthcare serving as a trustee on the Board, Audit Committee and Pension Fund of Global Health Medical Scheme.

He has also been a member of various other committees and forums, including Chairperson of the Audit Committee, Risk Committee and Mayoral Performance Evaluation Panel for the City of Cape Town. Aklaaq Mahmood is the director for AfroCentric Group’s Business Development and chairperson of Medscheme Namibia. He is a director for a number of AfroCentric Group subsidiaries. Further responsibilities include the integration of new acquisitions into the Group.

Across a distinguished career spanning over 15 years in the financial services industry, Satish has honed a versatile skill set through extensive exposure to and work across financial services markets in Africa and India.

Satish is the former Head of Sanlam Pan Africa’s Motor Insurance division, where he was responsible for executing significant regional partnerships and growing the motor insurance portfolios across East & Southern Africa. He also served on the boards of FBN GI (Nigeria) and Grand-Reinsurance (Zimbabwe) as Sanlam’s representative non-executive director. Following this stint in the Pan-African environment and prior to joining AfroCentric, Satish oversaw strategy development for the Sanlam Group, Africa’s largest non-banking financial services group, where he guided strategic reviews and translated these into actionable initiatives.

As a qualified actuary (FIA UK), Satish holds a robust understanding of insurance and financial principles. Complementing this expertise is his completion of an Executive MBA from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business, a testament to his commitment to continuous learning and leadership development.

His educational background, coupled with his extensive professional journey, underscores his strategic acumen and proficiency in navigating complex financial landscapes, positioning him as an adept leader in the financial services arena.

With more than 10 years of experience at a senior managerial level, Thirushen has cultivated a wealth of expertise in and passion for the areas of strategy, finance and operations, with a specific focus on healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. He considers these “impact sectors” to be a key enabler of positive transformation across the African continent.

Thirushen’s role has evolved rapidly over time within the Afrocentric Group, currently encompassing the management, 1ecognized1n and streamlining of multiple operating subsidiaries across various jurisdictions in Africa within the structure of a JSE-listed Group. Beyond the traditional responsibilities associated with oversight of the finance and operations function, Thirushen has developed strong commercial acumen through his involvement in various Boards and Committees, where he has shown an affinity for initiating, implementing and supporting strategic initiatives through close collaboration with the Group CEO.

Throughout his career, Ashley has amassed a wealth of knowledge and practical expertise across various technical disciplines, evidenced by his numerous certifications. His leadership experience spans the full spectrum of technology in multinational companies, including some of the largest financial institutions, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies, and professional organizations.

This breadth of experience has equipped him with the unique ability to navigate complex challenges and drive strategic initiatives.

As a seasoned Chief Information Officer (CIO), Ashley has been at the forefront of digital transformation programs across the African continent. His ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams across Europe has not only enhanced operational efficiencies but also fostered innovation within the organizations he has served. David Carolus brings over 20 years of leadership experience in business transformation and strategic execution within the healthcare industry. He has served as Chief Executive Officer of DENIS since 2013, during which time he transformed the business into South Africa’s leading national dental managed care and insurance entity, expanding its reach to serve more than 4 million lives.

David also serves as a Director of the Board of Healthcare Funders of Southern Africa (BHF) and is extensively networked with global healthcare leaders through his engagement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group. He is recognised as an expert in systems and futures thinking, with a proven track record of driving exponential growth and organisational change.

Effective 1 July 2025, David was appointed as Acting Executive Director of AfroCentric Corporate Solutions. In this role, he will collaborate closely with the Corporate Solutions leadership team to drive key strategic initiatives, ensure business continuity, and deliver integrated and future-oriented health insurance and wellness solutions into the workplace.

Career summary

Monwabisi Kula is an accomplished assurance and risk management professional with over 18 years of experience across corporate governance, internal audit, compliance, risk management and digital transformation. His cross-industry expertise spans financial services, healthcare, utilities and mining, including nearly a decade within the AfroCentric Group. Monwabisi brings extensive international exposure to his role, having led audits and assurance functions across three continents namely Africa, South America and Australia, including oversight of six mines across these regions. This global perspective has significantly shaped his approach to risk, assurance and stakeholder engagement.

Prior to his appointment as Chief Risk Officer, Monwabisi served in various leadership roles within assurance functions, earning a reputation for his collaborative and solutions-oriented approach. He believes that risk and assurance professionals provide the most value when they actively contribute to solving the issues they identify, rather than solely reporting them. As Chief Risk Officer, Monwabisi is responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management framework, playing a critical role in ensuring strategic alignment and regulatory compliance across all business units and subsidiaries.

Lindiwe Miyambu is a seasoned executive with a distinguished career spanning the public and financial sectors. She brings a wealth of experience in people management, organisational transformation, and strategic leadership.

Her career includes serving as Chief People Officer at the Auditor General’s office and a 12-year tenure at African Bank Limited as Group Executive: Human Capital, where she also led the CSI, Transformation, Ethics, and Sustainability portfolio for five years. Earlier in her journey, she held impactful roles at Nedbank and the World Bank, gaining valuable global exposure.

Her leadership is rooted in a people-first philosophy with a strong passion for learning, mentorship, culture and social impact.
