Hannes Boonzaaier

CAREER SUMMARY

After qualifying as a CA, Hannes joined a corporate finance team at KPMG, where he gained valuable experience in due diligences, valuations and commercial structuring of companies. He joined Medscheme 15 years ago as a financial manager upon which he progressed to manage various client business units involved in scheme finance, broker commission and claims processing. Shortly after the listing of the Group in 2009, he headed up the Group Finance unit which has since expanded due to the group diversification and changes in shareholding structures.

Aklaaq Mahmood

CAREER SUMMARY

Aklaaq Mahmood has more than 18 years' experience in the healthcare industry. Formerly, he was the Deputy CEO of LA Health Medical Scheme and Principal Officer of ProSano Medical Scheme. An MBA graduate from the University of Stellenbosch where he received a highest achievement Merit Award for Strategy. Aklaaq began his career in healthcare serving as a trustee on the Board, Audit Committee and Pension Fund of Global Health Medical Scheme.

He has also been a member of various other committees and forums, including Chairperson of the Audit Committee, Risk Committee and Mayoral Performance Evaluation Panel for the City of Cape Town. Aklaaq Mahmood is the director for AfroCentric Group's Business Development and chairperson of Medscheme Namibia. He is a director for a number of AfroCentric Group subsidiaries. Further responsibilities include the integration of new acquisitions into the Group.

Tebogo Makoe

Tebogo Makoe is a seasoned senior executive with over 20 years’ experience and leadership across all HR value chain functions, specialist roles, Centre of Expertise (CoEs) and strategic development and management of implementation.

Before joining the AfroCentric Group, she was HR vice-president at Sasol.

Tebogo studied at the University of Cape Town, where she has completed her Executive MBA, Strategic Human Resources and Bachelor of Social Science degrees. Other programmes that Tebogo has completed include her MA at the Witwatersrand University, the Breakthrough Programme for Senior Executives at IMD Lausanne Campus, Switzerland and Leadership and Organisational Renewal at Harvard Business School Boston Campus in the US.

Sandile Mbele

Sandile Mbele holds a BTech: Chemical Engineering, Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and an MBA. He has more than 15 years of experience in healthcare and joins the AfroCentric Group from Africa Healthcare. Prior to this, Sandile held various leadership roles at Netcare.

Avsharn Bachoo is a technology strategist with over two decades of experience as a chief information officer and chief technology officer. Across a distinguished career spanning over 15 years in the financial services industry, Satish has honed a versatile skill set through extensive exposure to and work across financial services markets in Africa and India.

Satish is the former Head of Sanlam Pan Africa’s Motor Insurance division, where he was responsible for executing significant regional partnerships and growing the motor insurance portfolios across East & Southern Africa. He also served on the boards of FBN GI (Nigeria) and Grand-Reinsurance (Zimbabwe) as Sanlam’s representative non-executive director. Following this stint in the Pan-African environment and prior to joining AfroCentric, Satish oversaw strategy development for the Sanlam Group, Africa’s largest non-banking financial services group, where he guided strategic reviews and translated these into actionable initiatives.

As a qualified actuary (FIA UK), Satish holds a robust understanding of insurance and financial principles. Complementing this expertise is his completion of an Executive MBA from the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business, a testament to his commitment to continuous learning and leadership development.

His educational background, coupled with his extensive professional journey, underscores his strategic acumen and proficiency in navigating complex financial landscapes, positioning him as an adept leader in the financial services arena.

Mujeeb Bray is an executive with 25 years of healthcare operations experience. Previously serving as the GM Executive – Head of Service at Discovery Health from April 2011. Holding a Bachelor of Commerce in Strategic Management from the University of Western Cape, Mujeeb has continually enhanced his leadership skills through programs like the Leadership Advance Programme at the University of Cape Town and the CEO Programme at the Said Business School – University of Oxford.

Throughout his tenure at Discovery Health, Mujeeb effectively managed an annual budget of R1,2BN, leading 3200 team members across the South African geography. His passion for customer experience was evident in his achievement of outstanding 90% customer satisfaction ratings across member, broker, and health professional channels since 2015. Notably, he received the CCMG Award for Best Contact Centre in the world in 2021.

Mujeeb is adept at financial management, strategic planning, and change management. He has successfully implemented process improvement initiatives, achieving an average of 10% Opex reduction year on year since 2017.

Prior to his current position, Mujeeb served as a Service Executive at Prudential Health, where he facilitated the seamless transition of the SA business to London within nine months and developed retention and engagement plans for SA-based staff. His 19 years of tenure at Sanlam includes serving as the CEO of Sanlam Health Solutions, where he was responsible for the Health Portfolio, Strategic Partnerships and the creation of innovative business models. Gary's leadership under Sanlam also extended to the AfroCentric Board, where he played a crucial role in aligning the AfroCentric health business with the broader Sanlam ecosystem.

Throughout his tenure, Gary has been at the forefront of managing Sanlam's Health Distribution, Primary Health Insurance, Gap Insurance, and Unsecured Loans businesses. His role as the Head of Business Change at Sanlam underscores his expertise in driving internal consultancy with a focus on organizational transformation.

Notably, Gary's journey includes key positions at renowned global organisations such as IBM and Accenture, where he contributed significantly to strategy design and implementation within the Insurance and Capital Markets sectors in South Africa and the USA.

Career Summary

Gerald is the former CEO: Client Solutions for Santam where he was responsible for managing Santam's direct-to-client value proposition that provides end-to-end digital, telephony and face-to-face distribution and servicing capabilities. He was also responsible for the overall Marketing function for the group. He previously served as Executive Head: Strategic Business Development where he was responsible for the identification and driving of targeted growth opportunities across the Santam Group of Companies including collaboration with Sanlam. These business opportunities span across ground up initiatives, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships. His other past experience includes the role of Executive Head: Distribution Services at Discovery Insure where he was also one of the founding executives of Discovery Business Insurance. He has over 18 years of extensive experience in the financial services industry. He is a past president, and former executive council member, of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) and a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa. And he served as non-executive director on the boards of two Santam Group subsidiary companies [Indwe Broker Holdings (Chairman) & Snyman van der Vyver] and served as non-executive director of Ayo Holdings Limited (an MTN Group subsidiary company in alliance with Sanlam)
